This Ural handicraft of painting became popular in Russia in the second half of the XVIII century at the town of Nigny Tagil (Ural) thanks to the patron and Maecenas of art Nikita Demidov. This technique was used to decorate trays, chests, boxes, tables and etc. Demidov founded an art school, established a manufactory that resulted in the further development of this decorative painting technique.
The uniqueness of the Tagil (Ural) painting is that the artist paints with several shades of color on his/her brush at once.
